Why Our New Hampshire Fuel Gas Fitter License Matters on a Gas Boiler

Installation, Maintenance & Repair

A gas boiler install isn't just the boiler. It's the gas piping from the meter, the shutoff, the venting, and the combustion air, and New Hampshire requires a Fuel Gas Fitter license for that work. We hold one, so the same crew handles both halves of the job. On natural gas, everything from the street up to the meter is Liberty's. On propane, the tank and its first-stage regulator come from your propane supplier, or they're yours if you own the tank.

One company, one call. The same licensed crew handles the boiler and the fuel gas piping.

Faster installations. The gas work and the boiler work happen on the same visit.

One point of accountability. If anything needs adjusting after startup, there's one company to call.

Gas Boiler Installation, Replacement, and Seasonal Maintenance

Installation, Maintenance & Repair

A modern gas boiler is compact, quiet, and steady. If your current unit is short cycling, struggling to keep up on cold mornings, or breaking down every winter, replace it for comfort and reliability first. The fuel savings are real, and on an old low-efficiency unit they add up, but they take years to cover the cost of the job. We'll run the numbers for your house before you decide.

We size every system to the building, not to the old unit. An oversized boiler short cycles, wears out faster, and costs more to run. Every quote starts with a real heat loss calculation, not a look at the nameplate on the old unit. Square footage, insulation, window count and orientation, and the condition of your distribution piping all feed the number. Ask us about financing options when you request your quote.

For homes with radiators or baseboard heat, we install multi-zone systems so you heat only the rooms you use.

An annual tune-up keeps a gas boiler efficient and catches small failures before they turn into no-heat calls. We clean the burner, run a combustion analysis on a hot boiler, test the safety controls, inspect the heat exchanger and flue passages, check the venting, and verify system pressure and the relief valve. You get a printed combustion readout, not a sticker on the jacket. Book it in late summer or early fall and skip the December emergency queue. We also handle annual boiler cleaning, and when a unit's reached the end of its life we'll quote a full replacement.

Natural Gas or Propane: Which Fits Your Property

Heating Installation, Maintenance & Repair

Both fuels run the same class of equipment, though a propane unit needs the right orifice and gas valve setup. That's a manufacturer-specified conversion, not something you improvise on site. The right answer comes down to what's at the street.

Natural gas is the lower-cost option per unit of heat in New Hampshire and needs no on-site storage. The catch is availability. Liberty Utilities delivers natural gas to Litchfield, Nashua, Manchester, Hudson, Merrimack, Londonderry, Milford, Bedford, Goffstown, Amherst and Hollis, but being a gas town doesn't mean a main runs down every street. Gas heat is common in Nashua, where about seven in ten homes use it, and much less common in the outlying towns. Coverage changes street by street, so the first question is always whether a main runs past your property. We'll check it with Liberty before we price anything.

Propane delivers the same fast, steady heat beyond the gas main. It stores in an on-site tank, which makes it a common pick for rural lots across Southern NH.

Thinking about switching from oil? We still do oil-to-gas conversions. They're less common than they used to be, and they only make sense when a gas main runs past your property. So we start there: we check availability with Liberty, then price the new boiler, the gas piping, and any line extension. If the fuel savings don't justify the work, we'll tell you, and we'll keep your oil system running well instead.

Gas Boiler Repair, and What to Do If You Smell Gas

When a gas boiler goes down in January, the clock matters. Drawing on over 30 years of experience and using only premium-quality parts, we diagnose the actual fault instead of swapping components until something works. We're a licensed and insured New Hampshire mechanical contractor, and we handle emergency boiler repair.

Common faults we resolve include ignition and pilot failures, faulty gas valves, blocked venting, circulator pump problems, pressure and expansion tank issues, heat exchanger leaks, and radiators or baseboards that stay cold while the boiler runs. That last one is a circulation and balance problem, and it usually traces back to air in the loop, flow, or zoning.

Contact us if you notice a burner flame that burns yellow or orange instead of crisp blue on any unit where the burner is visible; banging, rumbling, or kettling noises when the burner fires; soot or scorch marks around the boiler or the vent; the system locking out or needing a manual reset more than once; or water pooling around the base of the boiler.

Several of these point to incomplete combustion, which produces carbon monoxide. CO is colorless and odorless, and nothing but an alarm will detect it. Put CO alarms on every level of the building and outside each sleeping area, including the level where the boiler sits, and test them. Repeated lockouts are worth a call too. A reset isn't a fix, and the control is locking out for a reason.

IF YOU SMELL GAS OR YOUR CO ALARM SOUNDS, GET OUT FIRST.

A sulfur or rotten egg smell means gas, and a sounding carbon monoxide alarm gets the same response. Leave the building immediately and take everyone with you. Don't flip switches, unplug anything, open windows to air it out, use a garage door opener, or light a match. Don't start a car or any motor near the building. Don't use a phone, including a cell phone, until you're away from the building, and don't try to shut off your gas meter. Close the door behind you.

Once you're at least 300 feet away, call 911 or your gas utility emergency line. Don't go back inside until the fire department or the utility says it's safe. Call us once they've cleared the building, and we'll handle the repair.

We hold the New Hampshire fuel gas and electrical licenses the work requires, we show up when we say we will, and we tell you what we found before we tell you what it costs.
